A Seam Developer Walks into a Grails Conference....

...and so far so good...

Scott Davis' keynote presentation was great! He covered the whole perspective of differences and similarities between Java and Groovy. He reviewed all of the numbers on open-source (i.e., number of people using Java and Groovy; number of people using Apache over proprietary web servers; number of open source web frameworks over proprietary ones like Coldfusion; etc.) and the importance of open-source. Although there were few mentions of Groovy in the keynote, it definitely was inspirational and made me want to invest in the whole idea of open-source and Groovy.

While Scott does sound like a digital minister, he doesn't condemn anyone’s choice of programming language or web framework. Scott simply sells you on an option instead of on a dogmatic belief. The NFJS conference presenters employ a similar tactic, and they practice what they preach. Currently, I am sitting in on Programming DSLs with Groovy, presented by Venkat Subramaniam, who happens to be quite the programming language polyglot.

After this conference, I am going to gather all of the information that I can on Grails and make a post comparing and contrasting Grails and Seam. These frameworks are built on two separate ideals and I will try to be unbiased and academic in my opinions. I look forward to writing it.

Finally, Java works with Compiz

I really dig on the eye candy that compiz and the awn window manager brings out for Linux. Unfortunately I had to turn compiz off because java had some bugs with compiz like the unnerving blank dialog boxes in Swing based applications. Now there is a jdk early access that took care of that and so far so good. I haven't had drawbacks yet, but then again I have only played with it for 1 hour. To obtain the jdk6.0_u10 here is the link.

http://download.java.net/jdk6/6u10/promoted/b11/binaries/jdk-6u10-ea-bin-b11-linux-i586-24_jan_2008.bin
Agile Development Using Jboss Seam @ JBoss World 2008 in Orlando

I was accepted to present at JBoss World 2008 about a couple of months ago, and I am just about done crafting my presentation. My presentation highlights how to unit-test, integration-test, and acceptance test your jboss seam web applications.

The presentation will use a slew of technologies from easymock to selenium. I only have a measly 90 minutes to go through it all, but I hope and anticipate that it will be exciting, entertaining , and informational.

My bio and information about the presentation is here. For complete information on JBoss World 2008 in Orlando and other presentations that will be presented, please visit jbossworld.com
