ABQJUG Meeting: Building a JBoss Seam app from scratch!
Thu, 20 Jul 2006 08:32 PM GMT

Alright! This is the ABQJUG announcement for our meeting that will take place this coming Wednesday, July 26th, 2006. Training session time using JBoss Seam!

I know our previous ABQJUG Session in May was about JBoss Seam, but I got to thinking… the JUG website really, really sucks. My fault? Perhaps. But now is not the time to point fingers. ;)

So, after my morning cup of java, my creative juices started working, and behold - the perfect meeting idea! This Wednesday, we will have an interactive project that builds our ABQJUG website from scratch using JBoss Seam! If you have ever wanted to know how to build quick and easy web applications in Java with database integration then you will definitely want to attend this upcoming meeting. This training session will offer many great benefits:

  • One brand-spanking-new dynamic ABJQUG website
  • Tons of new technologies, including EJB3, JSF, JBoss Seam, AJAX
  • Massive amounts of audience participation
  • Absolutely perfect forum for beginners learning Java.
  • Endless possibilities to make play dates with other Java programmers
  • But most importantly… A quenching of the audience’s thirst to bask in the warm glow of my good looks.

Uh, scratch that last one...

The meeting will start at 3:00 PM. Because there will be a lot of fun stuff to do and not a lot of time to do it, I do plan to start at 3:00 PM sharp! You may arrive late, free country, but if you do, you will miss out on some primo stuff and have no one to blame except yourself. ;) The meeting will extend to 5:30 PM, at the latest. However, I will try my best to wrap it up by 5:00 PM.

The meeting will be held at our regular meeting place - the Cherry Hills Library at 6901 Barstow NE Albuquerque, NM 87111. Please do not bring any food or beverages with the exception of bottled water.

This meeting is free. If you know of anyone that would like to be a part of our ABQJUG, please have them email me at dhinojosa [that squiggly character] evolutionnext.com.

Meeting information is also on our website

Next Wednesday, March 29, 2006, we have a double presentation for you.

First, Dave Burkett is going to tell us about StringTemplate (http://www.stringtemplate.org/). StringTemplate, to whet your appetite, is a java template engine similar to velocity and JSP, but Dave will say it is a better working product because it enforces a strict model-view specification. This template engine can be used for code generators, web site generators, etc.

Second, Daniel Hinojosa will be covering EasyMock (http://easymock.org). EasyMock, is a quick and "easy" way to create mock objects from interfaces without have to generate a class and be forced to create required methods even if it isn't going to be used. Mock Objects are replacement object used for testing and are used in a wide variety of software development processes like XP.

Our meeting will be held at the Cherry Hills Library at 6901 Barstow NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111 on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Please NO DRINKS except for bottled water.

The ABQJUG is free of charge and everyone is welcome to attend and participate. If you or anyone else wants to be on the mailing list please write to me, Dan Hinojosa: dhinojosa@evolutionnext.com

PS: We have one additional announcement. Dave Burkett has decided to create the Albuquerque Ruby User's Group. The group focuses on the Ruby language, and it's popular ancillary product Ruby on Rails. Please visit http://www.rubyabq.org/ for more information

Wanted: Speakers for our JUG
Fri, 27 Jan 2006 01:25 AM GMT

I am one of the co-founders of our Albuquerque Java Users Group, which has been in existence since 1999. A continual problem for our group has been the lack of speakers. The speakers at our meetings are typically from within the group. Most of the time, we members are too busy to come up with content for a presentation. I want more – more variety in speakers and topics, more action, more satisfaction, less talk and more rock! ;) So, I am inquiring the blogosphere to see if anyone out there is interested in coming out to Albuquerque, NM to present at one of our ABQJUG meetings. We need full out geekery without the sales pitch. Here is a list of some topics that are of interest to our group:

  • Hibernate
  • AOP
  • JEE5
  • Tapestry
  • Advanced Testing Beyond Junit
  • JMX
  • Maven
  • Other Technical stuff

The number of group members at a meeting has ranged from 5 to 45. Yes, it is strange how that works. But I believe that if we get some great speakers lined up, we can keep that raise the low end of the range so that we get between 20 – 45 members per meeting.

We charge no fees, so as a group, we are not rich. Therefore, we can't fly anyone in or put them up for the night. But, I know that many evangelists and authors are keen on spreading Java information and the companies for which they work would pay to have them talk. I’m here to tell you today, that we here at the ABQJUG are ready to listen.

So, if you are on the circuit for your book, project, or software, keep Albuquerque in mind as one of your stops.

Albuquerque Java Users Group Meeting Announcement
Fri, 21 Apr 2006 08:42 PM GMT

This coming Wednesday, April 26th, we will have a meeting to discuss EJB3 - the latest ORM (Object Relation Mapping) spec. This spec is a collaboration between IBM, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, BEA, JBoss (now with Redhat), and others. It allows the Java programmer to work solely with objects rather than SQL.

I, your friendly neighborhood Danno, will be presenting. Come and experience code samples that will get you on track with this latest and greatest technology.

The meeting will be held at our regular meeting place - the Cherry Hills Library at 6901 Barstow NE Albuquerque, NM 87111. We will meet from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Wednesday April 26th, 2006. Please do not bring any food or beverages with the exception of bottled water.

The ABQJUG is always free of charge and everyone interested in Java is welcome to attend. If you wish to get on the email list or know of someone that would like to be on the list, please write me at dhinojosa@evolutionnext.com.
